Dhaka, June 20, 2026: The Department of
Journalism and Media Studies (JMS) at Manarat International University (MIU)
today inaugurated a Fact-Checking and Verification Course aimed at enhancing
participants' skills in identifying misinformation and verifying information in
the digital age.
The inaugural class was formally inaugurated
by Rafiquzzaman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, MIU.
The two-hour session was conducted by Qadaruddin Shishir, Editor of The
Dissent, who served as the lead trainer of the course.
The first session focused on
"Understanding the Information Ecosystem," introducing participants
to the flow of information across various media platforms and the challenges
posed by misinformation and disinformation.
The programme was coordinated by Md. Mamun Uddin,
Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, MIU.
Among others, Rehana Sultana, Assistant
Professor, and Tanvir Ahmed, Lecturer, of the Department of Journalism and
Media Studies, were present at the inaugural session.
